Day 15 30 Day Blogging Challenge If you spent 15 minutes with a celebrity who would it be and why?…View Post
Having followed The MAD blog awards for years and read many of the blogs, I have held the bloggers in high regard. The best in the business are on that list.
The awards are run by Tots 100 and, in February, I entered the chart at #1228. This might not seem very high – and it isn’t – nevertheless I was really pleased. With over 8,000 bloggers signed up for the leaderboard, I thought my debut position was fairly respectable. I expected to be a lot further down the list!!!
Before I start pleading for you to nominate me (that is coming don’t worry!), I thought I should say a little bit about me for anyone that is new to my blog.
I have been writing for years, just for me. I previously wrote a different blog but it never felt like something I wanted to push onto the world. It was more like a diary, just for me. Some people, by which I mean friends and family, read it. I never expected anything more.
I always wondered though… how do you get into the blogging world? I didn’t know where to start and, to be honest, I didn’t have the confidence.
In the summer of 2015, I went back to work after being a stay-at-home-mum for three years. This job happened to be writing for a newspaper; features and community stories. I also edit pages as part of my new job. Oh, and I talk on the radio once a week, which is pretty cool. As the months progressed, my confidence grew. And people began to tell me they enjoyed reading my articles. I was pretty shocked!
Christmas 2015 was suddenly here and I started to wonder…could I make a go at blogging? I mean a proper go at it??
I thought about what I had to offer. Did I have interesting material to write about? Most definitely. Could I write? Apparently so. Did I have the time? Erm…debatable…
I spoke to some friends who knew their stuff and they said that I had to pick a niche. So I pondered on what that could be… as I watched my kids play and listened to the funny things they had to say… what could it be?
Anyway, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to work out what was staring me right in the face. Parent blogging was the way to go and boy did I have a story to tell about how they entered into this world and everything that has happened since.
Then I created my blog, got my name and started writing. Double the Monkey Business was born.
It has taken me a while to work out how to promote my blog but I am slowly getting there… it is a steep learning curve.
I have found some great Facebook groups along the way: Blogger Club UK; UK Awesome Bloggers; and Bloggers Friends/Followers. I have ‘met’ some amazing bloggers in my two month journey (sorry The Unmumsy Mum, I know you hate that word). I have been welcomed into the blogger community with ease and never once have I felt like a bothersome newbie! Thank you for that!
So let’s get down to the detail. Nominations for The MAD blog awards opened yesterday, they are held annually and all the best blogs are recognised and nominated in their respective categories.
I would be so happy if I got nominated, even once. You would really make my day/month/year/lifetime! There is a ‘Best New Blog’ category, which celebrates blogs that are 12 months old or less. As my blog is on its third month, I would love to be nominated in this category.
How do you nominate?
Firstly, anyone can nominate. You don’t have to be registered with Tots 100 or even a blogger.
You need a fill out a short form, which can be found here. You will need to pick your all time favourite blog first (go on vote for The Unmumsy Mum, you know you want to!), before moving onto the next step where you can pick blogs for the set categories. This is where I would love it if you could vote for the following:
Best New Blog
There are so many amazing new bloggers out there, whom I have met along the way and follow. So in the spirit of goodwill I am going to ask you to also check out these blogs. If you don’t vote for me, vote for them. 🙂
Finally I have a few things I want to say:
I want to thank everyone who has read, commented on and liked my blog. Thank you to the people who have given me feedback along the way, I have really appreciated it and have taken it on board.
Thank you to the blogging community for welcoming me with open arms. You have all been amazingly supportive and I have been so fortunate to meet you.
Thank you to two little monkeys, Bob L and Bob D. Thank you for entering my life and making it brighter and a good deal funnier, albeit with a lot less sleep and free-time!
Last, but not least, thanks to the hubby for all his amazing support as I spend hours every evening writing and promoting my blog. Oh, and for correcting my grammar, of course!
Good luck to everyone hoping to be nominated!!
30 Day Blogging Challenge
I love Audrey Hepburn. She is such an amazing lady. I love Breakfast at Tiffany’s. When I went to New York a few years ago, I fulfilled a childhood dream and went to Tiffany’s to marvel at its glory. What an amazing experience.
On a side note, New York is another place I would love to live – I should have put this into my Day 12 blog post.
Roman Holiday is my other favourite Hepburn film. You have to love a good old black and white film, especially on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
With classic lines like, “Nobody puts baby in the corner” and “I carried a watermelon” what is not to love about Dirty Dancing? As for a certain Patrick Swayze and his sexy moves… eh, anyway where was I?
I remember watching this back in the 90s This was before live streaming, when you actually had to go to a video shop to rent movies you wanted to see. After renting the film again and again, I received one of the best Christmas pressies ever from my Aunt and Uncle – they bought me Dirty Dancing on VHS. I was thrilled!
I love Knocked Up and Superbad. I never get tired of watching these. In fact, I like most Seth Rogan films
All films with Jay and Silent Bob making an appearance are a winner. Everyone loves them, right?
Favourite TV Shows
There have been so many favourites over the years! Here is a selection of my favourites – in no particular order:
Sons of Anarchy
We are a little late to the party on this. We only started watching it a few months ago, despite having the boxset for over a year. The perils of having children and not having free time to watch TV. Or should I say, not having time to watch the programmes we like. Paw Patrol and Blaze and the Monster Machine definitely does not count!
Anyway, where was I? Back to SOA, we really enjoyed the first two seasons. Lost the will a little in season three. Then we have found seasons four and five brilliant.
We are currently on season 5 and looking to find some lovely friend(s) willing to let us borrow the last few seasons. Any takers?
This is one of my all time favourites.
We watched every episode, back-to-back, after we received the boxset for christmas a few years ago. We finished it in record time. As you have probably worked out, this was before the monkeys were born!
What I loved the most about it was the ending. I am not going to spoil it for anyone that hasn’t seen it, all I am going to say is it took me by surprise.
This was pure TV gold. The storylines were great. Plot was fascinating and well thought out. It had a fantastic cast, who really brought the show alive.
Recently, we bought Better Call Saul the prequel to BB. I cant wait to watch it. We really need to get Netflix and we could have watched it ages ago!
Game of Thrones
This is a must, isn’t it? I think everyone that watches it loves it. Still not got over some of the truly horrific deaths that have happened over the seasons though. I am impatiently waiting for April and the new season to arrive. I have been watching all the trailers to see if there are any clues about a certain character’s fate!
This is a childhood favourite. I have loved this since the 80’s. I have never quite got over the loss of David Tennant and Matt Smith though 🙁
I have watched Eastenders for as long as I can remember.
It is now the only soap I watch. Unfortunately, I don’t catch it every week. I just don’t have the time. However, Digital Spy is always there to fill in the gaps should I miss anything and to help with juicy spoilers.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel / Charmed
I had a huge obsession with these programmes a decade ago. Every now and again I catch an episode on TV and can’t resist watching them. They are old favourites.
I hear there is a charmed remake in the works, I really hope this is true.
I had picked a really cool vampire pic out for this one, but Bob D insisted we go with the minion. Who was I to argue?
Somewhere you’d like to move to or visit
I would love to live in a mainland European city and Berlin intially springs to mind.
When we went there a few years ago, on the second day I said to my hubby “I could live here”. I lived in London for years but I feel like cities in mainland Europe have a distinctly different feel.
As for places I would like to visit, Disney Land or Disney World are top of my list.
This is something that we plan to do when the monkeys are older so they can appreciate it. I think we are really going for the big kids in the family though (i.e. me and my hubby).
