Week 2 – My Favourites

My top four this week, is a selection of sweet and incredibly cute!  The first photo of the four is definitely a recipe I want to try out, however I suspect it would not look anywhere near as good as this!  The other three photos are just so simple and capture childhood so beautifully!

Four photos: 1. Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cake, drizzled in chocolate sauce. 2. a baby lies on a yellow mat, wearing a aqua baby grow and looking straight at the camera. 2. A little boy rides down the road on a scooter (wearing a jeans and a blue jumper). 3. A little girl sits on grass in rainbow coloured fair wings and a tutu. Week 2 on #capturingtheday

Happy Birthday! Four today

Happy Birthday! Four today

Happy Birthday Boys!

two little monkeys, days old sleeping in the same moses basket. Happy birthday boysI truly cannot believe that the boys are four today.  Yeah I know what you are thinking – all parents say it – but it is true that is all passes by so quickly.

One minute you are looking at two blue lines on a stick and before you know where you are, you are filling out school applications.  How did that happen?

A post will follow looking at some of the fun stuff the boys got up to on their birthday.  However, for this post I wanted to wish my beautiful boys a happy birthday.

The Third Year

This year has seen a lot of changes for us all, after being a stay-at-home mum for three years, I rejoined the world of work once more.  It took a little while to get into the swing of it but we soon settled into our usual routine.

We enjoyed a lovely christmas at home with my parents, followed by a fun New Year at the boys Aunt and Uncles.

We enjoyed a holiday to Bavaria, a trip to Scotland and a fun trip to London.

Over the year the boys have mastered their bikes, started to write their name and made some lovely friends at kindergarten.

I wrote a couple of short letters to the boys on their special day and thought I would share them with you.

To L

I am so proud of you.  You have overcome so much in your short life and always bounce back.  However, your tough exterior doesn’t fool me.  All the time people say to me what a tough cookie you are, and they are right.  But…sometimes you do find things tough.  I feel thankful every day that you turn to me, arms outstretched shouting ‘cuddle’ whenever you need that extra reassurance.

You are active and always full of fun.  You always need to be on the go.

Whenever you are up to mischief you just smile at me, showing those cute dimples and I am a goner.  So hard to stay annoyed with you when you look at me like that.

I hope that your 4th year is full of fun and happiness.  It is a big year ahead.  We will move house and you still start school.  I am sure you will tackle both with enthusiasm and a little hint of mischief.

Dig, dig, digging 💕❤️

To D

I have never known a child to have such a kind heart as you.  You are always so concerned when others are sad, wanting to comfort them.  I have lost count of the amount of times you have asked me with concerned eyes why a baby is crying or a child is sad.

You feel things so deeply and with such passion.  Your kindness shines out your beautiful blue eyes with sparkle.

You love to help and are my partner-in-crime when needing to do chores, wonder if that will continue as you get older??

Your cuddles have now become legendary, with the squeeze cuddles reserved for those special to you.  I am thankful to get a squeeze cuddle multiple times a day.

I hope your fourth year will be full of fun and wonder.  Again a big year ahead for you, moving and starting school.  I know you will make friends easily, you have such an easy charm with people.

Having fun at the party yesterday. Lovely to hang out with good friends. Missing London, not long until we are home 😟

Happy Birthday L and D!  We love you!

As two little monkeys sit side-by-side on a horse and cart, a mum wonders how four years passed so quickly. Happy 4th Birthday!

All the Fun of the Farm – Holiday Part Two

All the Fun of the Farm – Holiday Part Two

This story continues from ‘The Chaos’.  If you missed it then you can read it here

During our recent holiday to Bavaria, we were lucky enough to stay in a gorgeous apartment within a farm.

There was so much for the kids to do and enjoy.  The boys could join in as much or as little as they wanted in the day to day activities, which included feeding the animals.

Cows at the Farm

The cows line up to eat dinner!

Tractor Rides – Beep Beep

Every day the farmer would take his tractor out to help feed the cows.  It didn’t take long for the boys to work out that other kids were getting to ride the tractor.  In fact I think it was day two!

The boys loved sitting in the back and riding around the farm.  They were so proud to be ‘helping’ the farmer.  On the third day the boys sat still in the tractor for an hour!  Not anyone that knows the monkey’s, will realise that this is a blooming miracle!  They usually cannot sit still for more than five minutes.

I was a little worried at first, seeing my two little ones sitting on this huge tractor.  I was worried they would be ok.  However, the farmer was clearly practiced at this and drove slowly.  They listened to my pleas to sit still and not touch anything.  Daddy monkey was less worried though, as he happily snapped photos of them!

Neigh!

The pony ride was a fantastic opportunity for the boys.

They had never been on a horse before and I assumed that they would be on a tiny one, you know…more of a small donkey size than a horse.

However, when we arrived for the pre-booked lesson, we were pretty gobsmacked to see the size of the horse.

We were soon reassured, when the instructor informed us that the horse had a calm nature.  He was also used to children.

The lady who took the lessons was incredible. She strapped them into the saddle so they couldn’t fall and let the horse walk slowly round in circles.  She encouraged the young horse-rider to wave to us and their sibling as they trotted past.

This was fantastic at building up confidence.  Then she asked them to touch their nose, ears and head.  Within five minutes you could see the confidence grow in both boys. They were giggling and had huge grins on their faces.

When we were on holiday the boys had a little horse riding lesson. It was only ten minutes going round in a circle but they both LOVED it! 🐎

A photo posted by Double The Monkey Business (@doublethemonkeybusiness) on

At the very end of the lesson she held on to the boys legs and the horse sped up a little.  L just loved this and giggled the whole time.  He wanted more and kept shouting to go faster.

Thankfully for my nerves the lady didn’t actually speed up – phew!

D loved it to, however after a couple of fast trotting, he said “no more thanks.”

The lesson only lasted ten minutes.  However, it was the perfect length of time.  Just enough to increase confidence.

More please mummy

Both boys have asked endlessly if we can find somewhere nearby where they can have a few more mini-lessons.

I have looked online and it seems that horse riding lessons as for older kids. So, I am on the hunt for somewhere that does fun pony rides instead. With the monkey’s birthday coming up soon, it could be a good idea for a birthday treat.

Park Life

The farm has a great park to burn off some excess energy.  The monkeys loved jumping up and down on the trampoline, hiding in the tree house and climbing up the slide.

The park is accompanied by a stunning backdrop.  However, it was just the hubby and I that appreciated the view.

Spa and relaxation at the farm

The farm was not all about the little ones though.  The owners had obviously thought about the wellbeing of the parents who were on vacation as spa facilities were on hand.

There was a sauna to relax in which was great after a long day sightseeing.

They also had a lovely lady attend the farm to do beauty treatments.  I loved the pedicure and massage.  Bliss!

This is a real treat for me, since I had the kids I seem to have very little time for these type of activities.

The farm was a fabulous place for a break and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a trip away.

As we left the farm for the long trip home, the owner gave the boys some chocolate as a treat.  Such a simple thing but a really lovely touch.

Check back next week for the final instalment of our holiday, as I talk through some of the activities we found to keep us entertained during our week away.
