Slipping Through My Fingers – New Linky Alert!

Slipping Through My Fingers – New Linky Alert!

New Linky Alert!

Welcome to Slipping Through My Fingers. This is a Parenting Blog linky run by Happy Mummy, Double The Monkey Business & Candyfloss & Dreams.

The linky was inspired by the Abba Song ‘Slipping Through My Fingers’. I defy any parent to listen to the words of that song without welling up a little.

It is so true.  Just when we think we have nailed it and know everything we possibly can about our children for that split second in time, they grow and we have to catch them up all over again!

Reflections

Slipping Through My Fingers – A Parenting Blog Linky – is a place for you to sit back & really stop to think about ways your child has grown and developed over the previous month.

These don’t have to be HUGE milestones such as learning to walk or talk.  I am talking about the little things – the ones that get you right in the heart.  The first time they say ‘I love you Mummy/daddy’, their growing confidence and independence – whatever it is for you that particular month – there really is no right or wrong.

Unless you decide to use this space to link up a post about your hamsters latest meal – you get the gist!

How to Join In with ‘Slipping Through My Fingers’

To join in the fun, write a blog post and include Slipping Through Fingers in the title.  Include a photo of you & your child and write about the ways in which they have grown. We really are excited about Slipping Through My Fingers. We really cannot wait to read your posts.

Slipping Through My Fingers – A Parenting Blog Linky – will run from the 14th of each month to the end of each month.

The idea is to capture yourself and your child in a photo.  Then write about the times that you have felt they have grown.

So, stay tuned to Happy Mummy, Double The Monkey Business & Candyfloss & Dreams on the 14th November for the first one.  Why not start scheduling this months post!Slipping Through My Fingers - Linky Badge Logo - mum, dad and child hold hands

WEEK 9 – MY FAVOURITES

I think that these photos sum up November really well, wooly hats, fallen leaves and a hint of frost.  I am incredibly fascinated by those trees in the top right photo – they are amazing and so unusual.

Week 9 - Capturing the day. Four photos: A little boys kicks lots of leaves, a little girl walks past trees that are bare, a little boy is on a climbing frame, frost covers leaves on a plant.

#Parentingscoop: Miracle Max

This month I am thrilled to have the lovely Jo from Miracle Max feature on #parentingscoop.  If you are not familiar with her blog, then please pop over and say hello!

Bio – Miracle Max

I’m Jo and I am a 33 year old Mum to 4 month old baby Max. I started my blog when Max was born as a way to document his life and all his important milestones. I also blog about my struggle to conceive so often share stories about my miscarriages and IVF.

When I’m not blogging I love eating out. I’m obsessed with reality TV (please don’t judge me) and have an addiction to RedBull.

Tell us about your pregnancy:

We conceived via IVF so this pregnancy was very precious to us. I had previously suffered 6 miscarriages so I found it very hard to relax and enjoy the pregnancy as I was always scared something would go wrong again.

I had a few hospital admissions between 17-24 weeks due to bleeding but this was kept under control and I was monitored with weekly appointments throughout.  Some days I could barely walk up the stairs as I also suffered from SPD and terrible acid reflux.

Throw into the mix that I had excess waters as well so I officially looked like a whale! It’s safe to say I don’t think pregnancy suited me!

What was your one essential item for your hospital bag and why?

A hand held fan. The hospital was so hot and this really helped to keep me cool. I spent most of my labour with ice packs on my head and the fan in my hand and it was a life saver.

What item did you pack in your hospital bag that you didn’t use?

Pretty much everything! I’d packed the contents of my bag (especially the clothing and big knickers) around the planned c-section that had been booked for me due to having Placenta Previa, but as you’re about to find out, things didn’t quite go to plan.

Where did you give birth? Did you have any complications?

I gave birth at my local hospital. I’d been booked in for a c-section due to having Placenta Previa but my waters broke 2 days before the planned date. We made our way to hospital and after a scan I was told that the placenta had moved and I could now have a natural delivery.

I called my Mum who was my second birthing partner and told her to come down. Short labours run in my family so we were sure it wouldn’t be long. That wasn’t the case for me however and I ended up being in labour for a very long 32 hours.

Just as I got to 10cm dilated Max’s heart rate plummeted and I was rushed to theatre. I had to have an episiotomy and Max was delivered by forceps. He didn’t breathe for 10 minutes and was taken straight off to neo-natal so I only got a brief look at him before they took him away.

It turns out he had the cord wrapped around his neck twice! I also had to have a transfusion as I lost a lot of blood. It was certainly an experience that I won’t ever forget.

Jo with Max just after the birth

What were the first few weeks like after giving birth?

Difficult!

Max had terrible reflux so was constantly screaming in pain and being sick. He was waking every 1-2 hours in the night so we were exhausted.

I also suffered from Post Natal Depression (PND) and really struggled to form a bond with Max. It’s still something I’m trying to overcome but day by day it’s getting better and I’m feeling more confident in my abilities to be a good Mum.

Do you have any advice for new parents?

Work as a team. It’s a big adjustment to both of your lives and it’s made so much easier if you tackle it together and share as much of the load as you can. Me and my husband made a pact that we would never go to bed on an argument, so no matter how much of a tough day we’d had, we would always kiss and make up before we went to bed.

Also, try to give your partner a bit of ‘me’ time, even if it’s just for 30 minutes to allow them to take a bath or drink a cup of coffee whilst it’s still warm. Those precious 30 minutes to re-charge your batteries are really important.

If you were to go through pregnancy again what would you do differently?

I’d try to relax more and enjoy it. Even though my pregnancy was difficult I do really miss it. I spent so much time worrying that something would go wrong that I didn’t really just sit and cherish those precious kicks.

What is your funniest parenting story?

We went out to do the food shop and I forgot to take Max’s changing bag with me. He’d been fed and had a nappy change just before we left the house so I thought we’d get away with a quick visit to the shop. No sooner had we got down the first aisle he did the biggest poo explosion known to man – it went the entire way up his back! We had to do a quick trolley dash around the supermarket to grab the essentials with the smell of poo following us around. We got some funny looks from the rest of the shoppers!

Max, smiling at the camera with a stripy top on.
