I love getting out to explore with the monkeys, especially going on a nature hunt. As a blogger I find it all too easy to get drawn into my laptop if I am at home, just checking the odd email or
stalking checking Facebook. If we are out and on the go, then I am focused just on the kids which is just the way I like it.
Last year I excitedly planned endless activities and crafts for the to do, with images of how much fun we would all have together. In reality though, generally they were not too interested – unless it was making lots of mess. I think on hindsight they may have been a little young for my plans – whoops!
So you can imagine how excited I am that they are suddenly a lot more engaged in activities. Everything around them interests them, wanting to know the name and asking the wonderful ‘why’ (!) every two minutes. Which is great, until you have been asked ‘but why mummy’ 100 times in ten minutes. I once had a very frustrating conversation with D about why why cats have tails – apparently my answer ‘for balance’ wasn’t enough of an answer.
Time to go on a
bear nature hunt
Last week, we were preparing for our trip to the Tierpark (German animal park). I asked the boys if they fancied a nature hunt and they loved the idea – WOO HOO!!
We created a sheet with some fun seasonal things for them to find; leaves, trees, conkers…
The boys helped me choose the pictures and they sat with me as we designed the fun nature hunt sheet. That was a fun activity in itself, I have to be honest.
Grr Bloomin Printer….
So, we were all set. We were super pleased with our finished product and the boys were hugely excited about our new adventure.
Then we went to print the sheets off and…the printer broke.
Yep, just when I think I have the whole parenting thing sorted out – it ends in tears. Quite literally as the boys were gutted that it wasn’t working after all our hard work.
We tried to call Daddy, but he was off course in a meeting.
I had to think quick on my feet as I saw the boys crumble with disappointment that their hard work didn’t pay off.
Then I remembered about the little invention of the smart phone! Not quite the same satisfaction as ticking of a paper list, but at least we could still use it.
So we set off and the boys have a great time in the end and I now have a rather fetching display on my coffee table of conkers that they have collected.
Daddy saves the day
At the end of the day, Daddy did get our message about the failed printer. Although, a little too late for that days adventure, he did bring home some printed copies for us to use another time.
So, yesterday we set off with renewed excitement, paper copies in hand. The boys were really excited as they hunted around for the pictures in real life.
Something for you
I love to share the blogging love with everyone, so I thought why not share our nature hunt with everyone? So, if you want to get involved, just print the below for free and enjoy! I would love to see your little ones using the sheets, so would love it if you could tag me on Instagram with photos. You can find me here: @doublethemonkeybusiness.
