HELLP – Do You Know? (H)

HELLP – Do You Know? (H)

When I was pregnant with my twin boys I developed HELLP syndrome.

I have written many posts about my journey.  I didn’t feel like I could do anything but HELLP for the letter H.

For those that are new to my blog, HELLP syndrome is a life-threatening pregnancy complication which usually occurs during the later stages of pregnancy, or sometimes after childbirth.  To find out more about this please see an earlier post.

So far, I have documented right up until the boys’ first few hours.  This is just the start of my journey and the next stage is documenting what happened when I was incredibly ill in hospital.  This chapter will be coming up in May when I have completed the A to Z Blogging Challenge.  This is going to be pretty hard for me to write, but the thing that I always bear in mind is that I walked out of that hospital with two amazing little boys in my arms.  I was lucky.  I have spoken to many people who have not been able to say the same.

In January, I decided to start my Double the Monkey Business blog and I decided to start writing about my journey with HELLP.  Two things have happened since.  First, I have felt like it has been therapy to me, it has really helped me come to terms with everything that has happened.  Second, I have spoken to many other ladies that have also had HELLP syndrome.  As someone who had never heard of this before I was diagnosed with it, it is interesting to speak with others who have been in the same position.  I feel like this syndrome is far more common that I had first realised.

Ultimately, I hope to raise awareness of HELLP syndrome through my blog.  If I help just one person, then it will all be worthwhile.

Well done for raising awareness and I hope it helps you to write about it. I know writing things down helps me to process things better. Thanks for linking to #PickNMix

It really helps to sort things out in my head if I write it down. You can just do it at your own pace x

Wow, as a Labor and Delivery nurse I know how dangerous HELLP is and I can only imagine how scared you were during the whole ordeal. Good for you for sharing your experiences to help raise awareness. Thanks for sharing! Cassie from Mommy, RN

Always good to hear from health professionals who know about HELLP. Thanks for reading x

This is something I have never heard of, so I clicked the link to your other blog post where you explain what the condition is. How scary! I’m glad that you are okay and both your boys are okay too. How wonderful it is that you are documenting this so there is info out there for someone else to use in the future.
    A to Z hopping…
