The Summer Holiday Blogging Struggle

If you read my post the other day, you will know that we are one week into the summer holidays here in Germany.

The boys have enjoyed having time off and if I am honest I think they were ready for it.  They were struggling the last couple of weeks at kindergarten.

We have had a great time so far and been up to all sorts, including meeting this guy:

Hello there! One from yesterday. D thought this one got a bit too close for his liking!!

It has been lovely to have some more time with the kids, however I have to admit it has been a struggle to juggle everything.  With the kids around all the time I have found blogging a struggle.

The Struggle

I like to get a blog post out three times a week as a minimum, however I am finding it hard to concentrate on posts with the kids around.  For some reason in the evenings I am too tired to think about a post, wonder why that could be?

Also I keep forgetting to link my blog up to my usual blogging linkies.  Or I remember and I am one of the last to add my posts.

This has all been stressing me out as I feel like I have not been giving my blog it usual attention.  Yet at the same time I want to enjoy the summer with my boys.  Oh and I still have a little thing called work to have to manage too.

The Struggle

This is me trying to juggle and dropping everything….

What to do???

So, the upshot is, I have decided to stop being so hard on myself.  For the month of August I am going to just try and post when I can, rather than my usual schedule.

The way I see it is the kids are only small once.  The summer holidays will soon mean them going off with friends.  There will come a point where they don’t want to hang out with mummy anymore.  So I want to appreciate every minute while I can.

On the plus side, all this fun we have been up to has been great for getting to grips with photography and my Instagram account.  Instagram has been given a lot of love and attention lately.  I have to admit I have really enjoyed playing around with our photos.

I have read a few posts lately where bloggers have had a digital detox, I do like that idea but I worry that if I did that, I would end up getting out of the habit of blogging altogether.  So, for now I don’t think I am going to be taking things that far.

I can promise that in September Double the Monkey Business, will resume normal service.  Anyway I have a lot to blog about that month, there is a very important double monkey birthday coming up….  Oh if anyone has any tips on what to get twin four-year-olds for their birthday then I would love to know your ideas.

Does anyone else struggling to blog when the kids are on holiday?  Do you have any tips to help?  Do you have a digital detox?

Enjoy your holiday with your children. So much more important than blogging, she says… Ah haha. Don’t worry too much, I am sure a,lot of other bloggers are on holiday too. We all need a break at some point #SharingtheBlogLove

Have a wonderful rest of the summer holidays and enjoy your time with your kids. I’m a 3 times a week blogger too, but I’ve slipped a few times lately – sometimes life just gets in the way! And I nearly always find that when I let the blog slip I fill the time with enjoyable things that provide great blog material – it’s a win-win! Thanks so much for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove

The only time I stop blogging is if we’re away. My theory is that instead of daily blogging I’ll schedule 2-3 posts, but mostly I try to publish them and finalise them while away. So far that’s never worked because we never have wifi when we’re away. Otherwise, school holidays are just like working weeks – either N is in holiday club or sometimes he’s picked up early by the OH and goes and helps out on the farm. So I just blog in the evenings, and occasionally get chance to hand write a couple of posts while at work.

It’s definitely hard for social media and linkys though – although I don’t do many now anyway. #sharingthebloglove

Surprisingly I’m okay blogging with little T at home. I usually do it at night after she’s gone off to bed. But when on holiday, I don’t bother to blog at all and just try to enjoy it as much as I can. x

Totally agree that blogging in general is a drain on your resources and definitely time with the kiddies! I’ve loved our holidays away from it all – it’s made me put my blog a little on the backburner for a while. As you say, the kids are only little once and if they are distracting you, you might as well not bother! See you properly again when school starts! haha

It’s great you are just relaxing with your blog. As you say they are only little once, spending your time with them and making great memories is worth so much. Blogging can be very demanding at times so when you can, relaxing is perfect!

I was chatting with a PR just this afternoon, saying that I’ve loved having all 3 kids home for the holidays, but it sure is playing havoc with my work schedule! I found myself getting frustrated with myself as the days pass and I was getting little work done. But I gave my head a wobble and told myself, I’m a mum first … blogger second. As you said, they’re only little once, and before long, they’ll be wanting to spend every minute of their holidays out with friends. So like you, I will be less harsh on myself and just enjoy my babies whilst I have them all here together.

My kids haven’t started school yet so they are always home with me. I try to work around it all.

I completely understand how you are feeling! I actually had a digital detox a few weeks ago when we went on holiday. I didn’t schedule any posts for while I was away and aside from one instagram post I stayed away from social media. It was the best thing I could have done because I came back feeling completely refreshed, full of ideas and even better, full of positivity which is something I had been lacking for a while.

I don’t think a digital detox would work for everyone, but for me it was just what was needed. Xxx #BloggerClubUK

It’s tough isn’t it? Until now my girls have had chicken pox and that has meant lazy days at home and a few naps from Alice which doesn’t happen ever. Which meant I good just about keep up with blogging. But since they have been better, we have been out enjoying the holidays and the blog is taking a back seat. It’s meant a few late evening to meet deadlines with brands, but I’m ok with that as I want to spend my days with my girls. It won’t be forever and they are always my priority. Like you day they won’t be little for long x

Its always difficult when the kids are off! Summer time should be about enjoying time with your kids and getting up to alsorts so don’t stress about it, in the long run its a big deal if you go off track for a few weeks

Oh I feel this I’m trying to schedule posts as I type this for while we are away!! I’m not sure I’ll make it. We’ll see! Monkey has recently turned 4 too! He got a lot of Lego which has been great and keeps him entertained no end. The junior sets he can follow the instructions himself too. Would definitely recommend. Plus it’s easy to store!! #sharingthebloglove

It is hard isn’t it? My little one is only in nursery in the mornings (which I work) with me all afternoon and so I only have the evenings. So it’s kind of like this for me all the time, so I totally sympathise. I get by by putting reminders in my phone and allowing myself an hour each evening to link up and comment on a few posts. I think you do have to not be too hard on yourself though, although easier said than done when you’re passionate. I think it’s safe to say we’ve all been there though. Good luck with the rest of the summer holidays ๐Ÿ™‚ #SharingtheBlogLove PS. Congrats on being a fellow Showcaser this week! Yay to us!

Trying to juggle blogging during the summer holidays is so difficult – I’ve certainly been struggling with it and feel very behind with comments and blogmin. Like you say though, the children are only small for a short time and normal service can always resume again in September! Glad to hear you’ve decided not to be too hard on yourself #sharingthebloglove

I can understand because I’ve been struggling with blogging since the very beginning. My son is around me most of the time (he only attended nursery part-time), I have lots of other things to do as well and of course, I want to spend time with my family. This summer, I’ve had days or even weeks off blogging several times and I am OK with that. I started blogging with the intention of having fun and sharing what is important to me whenever I can. Sometimes, I can’t spare a minute for my blog and this is not because I don’t take it seriously. The day just doesn’t have enough hours, especially when a 4-year-old is always doing his best to distract you and sabotage your writing. ๐Ÿ˜€ x #SharingtheBlogLove

I don’t have kids yet but I even struggle to blog once a week with my full-time job. I can’t imagine trying to do it with kids though – kudos to you! I decided a while ago that I was just going to post once a week and had to be okay with that, even though I really want to post more.

Wow, I don’t know how mothers can find the time to blog with kids around! I didn’t start blogging until over 5 years ago and all our kids are out of the house and with children of their own. I tried blogging more frequently, but eventually I had to cut it down to 2-3 times per week. You do what you have to do for yourself and your family!
